ABSTRACT

The changing nature of academic development means that I am increasingly using writing as a way of doing my development work. I suspect this is true for many developers. In this chapter I want to explore the ways in which I am using writing for development, and the implications of this for us as developers. I hope that the chapter will provide an opportunity for you to reflect on your own use of writing in development work. I also hope it will let you consider where this might lead. What skills do we need as developers in order to make the best use of this medium? What may we lose by spending time on writing? How we can use writing to enhance our work as developers?
