A list of ‘milestones’ should be given to students and it should be insisted that all are met. A leisure and tourism tutor produced the information shown in Figure 10.1 for his students.

At the first stage of the work students should be made aware of the range of information, material and research that should be undertaken. Booklists, lists of Web sites, picture libraries and places to visit are useful to stimulate activity. A realistic plan from students showing the structure, the methodology and the style of their coursework will make a good first milestone and enable the tutor to offer guidance and support.
