The prospectus was nevertheless quite right. Changes in daily weather are indeed superimposed on a more stable background. But that background itself varies, on longer time-scales. And behind these longer scales are even slower changes. In logic, there is neither end nor beginning to this progression, other than the time when the atmosphere came into being.
