ABSTRACT
Way back in 1975, feeling giddy and disoriented on the cusp between Marcuse and the managers, as well as fearful of the demise of empiricism in a world of model formulation, I wrote a piece called ‘Model mocking birds and empirical eggshells’. Part of it, reproduced below and minimally revised, forms my starting point now in the mid-1990s.
