OHG stantan: OE stand-, OHG stante, are extnn of stano, which, like the stat-of L and Gr, is itself an extn of IE ·sta-, to hold oneself upright (to stand), which has var ·stath-, seen both in Skt and in Go and ON. The IE r ·sta-, ·stho-, shows the vowel-changes ·ste-, ·sti-, ·sto-, ·stu-(and ·sthe-, etc.).
