ABSTRACT
Originally prepared for a conference on educational evaluation in Madrid (Boyd-Barrett, 1993) on the eve of a new era of educational evaluation in Spain marked by the establishment of the Instituto Nacional de Calidad y Evaluation and of general recognition of the necessity for evaluation of the implementation of LOGSE, this chapter draws on the contrasting experiences of Spain and the UK to argue the importance of an international dimension to evaluation, with particular reference to the themes of democratization; decentralization; comprehensivization; curriculum standardization; vocationalization; multi-culturalism; and professionalization.
