ABSTRACT

It is a Monday in late February, 10:45 in the morning. Helen Johnson is ready to begin her poetry unit with her third-period, seventh-grade class. She has taught this unit a number of times, and she always looks forward to it, especially because it begins with several poems by Emily Dickinson, one of her favorite poets. Her knowledge of the life, poems, and critical material on Dickinson is rich and extensive, and she enjoys sharing it with her students.
