ABSTRACT

In a recent survey undertaken by the Institute of Leadership and Management (2011), organisations responded that 80 per cent of them had used coaching in some way over the last five years. Many indicated that in the difficult times we are living in today the potential for managers to coach their staff from poor to good, or from good to great is huge. Many organisations start the process with their top management team being coached. Managers gain skills in coaching and use its approach on a regular basis as part of their ongoing conversations with the people they line-manage; they have the benefit of being on hand to have brief coaching conversations as well as more formal sessions, which can be built in to the calendar.
