ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the potential of whole school initiatives around mediating and reducing conflict to contribute to, and be supported by PSHE and citizenship. The chapter is based on case studies of conflict resolution in practice and is drawn from an evaluation of a conflict reduction project in a number of secondary schools within an Inner London Borough – Tower Hamlets.1 We are conscious that there is a welcome growth in conflict resolution work in primary and secondary schools and a growing literature in the area. We have chosen not to review this literature here, but rather to provide the reader with a glimpse of conflict resolution in action, using the words of the adults and young people involved in the work.
