ABSTRACT

It is not possible in a single chapter to cover the whole field of problem-solving in school science. There is now a considerable body of literature on the subject (see further reading) where you may explore some of the research issues and background ideas in more depth than could possibly be achieved here. What I would like to do is convince you that problem-solving can be fun. I would also like to show how it can be a meaningful learning experience for your pupils and yourself and fit into the National Curriculum! Remember that the National Curriculum is a minimum entitlement and not a limitation.
