ABSTRACT
For the first time…the world has…a set of universal principles for health, a social helix whose strands can shape many different health systems in response to different needs and different capacities. In many developing countries these strands are being put together in such a way as to offer a totally new approach to social and economic development. In many industrialised countries they are being put together to attain health targets for improved health through better deployment of existing resources.
