ABSTRACT

Following the introduction of the national curriculum, HMI identified six factors which their survey of practice in primary schools showed to be related to successful topic work. It is interesting to note that the factors relate to team work among staff, but make no reference to co-operative work among pupils or to the involvement of pupils in planning. Looking back to the earlier chapter on topic work by Kerry and Eggleston, how does the OFSTED list relate to the approach to topic work outlined there? In what ways does the structure of the national curriculum appear to have shaped and changed topic planning!
