ABSTRACT

Recent legislation has aimed to increase the amount of choice open to parents so that they can, in theory, send their child to the school of their choice. In reality the degree of choice available to parents may vary quite widely, depending on factors such as where they live, how many schools are available within easy reach, and whether these schools have room for them or not. We therefore asked the parents how and why they had chosen the school their child attended, whether they had visited the school before making their choice, and whether they had considered or visited other schools.
