ABSTRACT

Whilst counselling schemes have been established elsewhere to support pupils generally, it is only recently that peer counselling services have specifically tried to assist bullied pupils. Whitney and Smith (1993) highlight the problems which schools face in encouraging pupils to talk about the problems they face with a member of staff in school. Many children do not tell anyone that they are being bullied. Obviously, if schools remain ignorant of the difficulties being faced by their pupils, they are unable to take effective action.
