ABSTRACT

How many times have you found yourself in a conflict—in situations, with others, with yourself? In Barthes’ work A Lover’s Discourse, the lover finds himself in such a position: ‘I am caught up in a double discourse, from which I cannot escape’ ( Barthes 1978:73). The lover attempts to conceal this tension and anxiety with verbal signs. However, he discovers that what he hides by his language, is uttered by his body.
