CRISTINA SZANTON BLANC was born and raised in Rome. Currently senior associate at the Southern Asian Institute, Columbia University, her books include A Right to Survive: Subsistence Marketing in a Lowland Philippine Town (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1972); Urban Children in Distress: Global Predicaments and Innovative Strategies (Gordon and Breach, 1993); and Nations Unbound: Transnational Projects, Postcolonial Predicaments, and Deterritorialized Nation-States, with Linda Basch and Nina Glick Schiller (Gordon and Breach, 1993). Her currents projects focus on transnationalism, new social movements, and human rights.
