ABSTRACT

Su Yunsheng, you have extensive experience of the urbanization of China, and your insights are highly valuable for this book. There have been great synergies in our professional and academic collaborations since 2005. I am keen to discuss with you the phenomenon of urbanization in terms of the achievements made, and also some of the problems associated to the largest, and fastest, urban project in the history of the world: the urbanization of modern China. I'd like to discuss the ten million units of housing per year which the central government intends to build for the foreseeable future, which will lead to three hundred to four hundred million additional rural people being urbanized in the coming decades. Different from cities which have long existed and expand, can you share your thoughts on the phenomenon of instant cities in twenty-first-century China?
