ABSTRACT
In medical history recently, there has been a trend towards looking at medicine ‘from the patient’s point of view’.1 Instead of taking at face value the claims of medical practitioners, one looks at the full range of types of medicine available to a patient, the factors influencing the choice of healer and the patient’s construction of what is happening to him or her-why me? why this illness? how is this therapy supposed to help me?
