ABSTRACT

In this final chapter the Heilongjiang team presents the discoveries of the Bronze Age in Heilongjiang in the southeastern part of the province. They have chosen this area because evidence of bronze in the rest of the province is scarce. However, many of the sites with bronze also have iron, and may be as late as the Warring States period. The sites are found where the Songhua [Sungari] river and the Nenjiang [Nonni river] come together, and along both rivers. This is the best agricultural land in the province. It is in some sense a continuation of the Liao region, as the drainages are separated by only low hills, and the entire area can be perceived as one vast plain.
