ABSTRACT

The democratic political system in Italy, which was formed during the post-fascist transition phase between 1943 and 1948, began to come to an end in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The state of crisis and dismemberment in which it finds itself accelerated during 1992–3 to such an extent that the model of democracy which was constructed in the transitional period between 1943 and 1948 is now clearly devoid of life, and rejected by the public.
