ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overview of key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of the book. It explores the case studies regarding the use of Islam as a political ideology or a political tool: Islam in the political arena whether within domestic polities or regional and/or international systems has been used in a variety of ways for the achievement of widely differing objectives. Islam has been used within Muslim countries as a legitimising agent both by forces committed to and opposed to particular status quos. The case studies relating to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco and Pakistan demonstrate the above mentioned aspect of political Islam. The case studies brought together are more than adequate to expose, in fact totally discredit, the two related myths with Western analysts of the Muslim world: of a monolithic Islam and of an unprecedented political resurgence which is bent upon subjugating, if not destroying, Western civilisation.
