ABSTRACT

A A popular political discussion programme, A esta hora se improvisa (At This Time of Day You Improvise) was shown on Chile’s television channel 13, run by the Universidad Catolica, between 1970 and 1973, broadcast at prime time on Sunday evenings. Moderated by Jaime Celedon, it reflected the sometimes violent political conflicts unleashed during the Popular Unity period. Politicians were nominated by their parties to appear alongside journalists Julio Martinez, Jose M. de Navasal and Tito Mundt. Participants included Jose Toha of Popular Unity, Jaime Guzman representing the Right and Claudio Orrego for the Christian Democrats, among others.
