ABSTRACT

Writer and activist Undisputed leader of the struggle for women’s emancipation and women’s rights in Chile, La­ barca was an active member of the Radical Party, UN delegate and the first woman to hold the Chair of Philosophy at the University of Chile. In 1915 she created the ‘Women’s Reading Circle’, an organization for the study of feminism; she wrote widely on feminist issues, coedited the newspaper Action Feminina (Feminine Action) and helped to create the Partido Civico Feminino in 1922. Her works include {Adonde va la mujer? (Where are Women Going?) (1934).
