ABSTRACT

One of Cuba’s best known songs, it was written by Ernesto Lecuona in 1927, originally for his musical revue, La tierra de Venus (The Land of Venus), which premiered in Havana that same year. On that occasion, ‘Siboney’ was sung by Rita Montaner, who made it famous. Since then, it has formed part of the repertoire of many singers and groups, including the Lecuona Cuban Boys, the Perez Prado orchestra, Sonora Matancera, Placido Domingo and Celia Cruz.
