ABSTRACT

Teatro Abierto was a theatre movement founded in 1981, in opposition to the Argentine military dictatorship. It presented twenty-one works, writ ten, directed and performed by Argentines. A broad and democratic movement, its participants included both well-known names and new artists. Its driving forces included Osvaldo D rag u n , Roberto G ossa and Carlos Somigliana. An arson fire destroyed the Teatro del Picadero where many of the works were presented, but the support of many institutions and the public enabled it to continue in other venues. The call to participate was issued again in 1982 and 1983.
