ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some similarities and differences in current and earlier policing counter terrorism (CT) policies and practices. It argues that there are more similarities with the past than are sometimes identified by proponents of the ‘new terrorism’ thesis. Here I will focus on policing and not the wider aspects of what unfortunately has been called ‘the war on terror’. So I assume a criminal justice rather than military model of CT.
