ABSTRACT
Intelligence-led Policing (ILP) is a relatively recent addition to the vocabulary of policing and one that has been seen as the most positive contribution that the police service can make to crime prevention (Ratcliffe, 2002). However, while the police service might have embraced the terminology of ILP in principle, its practice is rather less straightforward (Ratcliffe, 2002). This chapter considers the application of ILP in the UK. It covers key definitions; the rationale and impetus for the development of ILP; its operation in the UK; and potential challenges for the implementation of the approach in the future.
