ABSTRACT

The task of this study was to examine the impact of a rising China on the international system, and, more precisely, the pattern of interaction between a rising China as a world power and the international system which itself is undergoing a profound change, and the mutual impact they have on each other. We initially envisaged a research problem to locate the original and defining substance in this relationship: whether China shapes the international system in its organization, power structure, norms and standards, and governance, or whether the international system shapes China's international policy and behavior, and domestic change.
