ABSTRACT

Hughes (1986) created a large database on different standards of play and modelled their patterns of play, defining the patterns of play that were characteristic of elite, county and recreational squash players. Ten years later similar research was carried out by Hong, et al. (1996). Hughes and Robertson (1998) used computerised notational analysis to create a template for elite male squash and its subsequent use in designing hand notation systems for player development. The modelling of competitive sport is an informative analytic technique because it directs attention to the critical aspects of data that delineate successful performance (McGarry and Franks, 1996). Murray and Hughes (2001) reviewed the development, methodology and application of tactical performance profiles used with elite level squash players.
