ABSTRACT

Are child protection experts prepared to re-evaluate their practice in the light of new research and reports without taking critical analysis as a personal affront? If so, is it possible to establish a lower level of intervention for some child protection referrals, even though some would argue that the information required to make a decision about the level of intervention is only available after the enquiry? (Rose, 1994:4)

It will be my aim in this chapter to address these questions.
