ABSTRACT

Women’s participation in the paid labour force is an indicator of women’s achieved status in a community (Norris 1987). In Western countries one of the most widespread and significant changes since the 1960s has been a significant increase in the number of married women with children in the labour force. This third section examines the interaction between families and working life with a particular focus on three areas: state policies and their influences on women’s participation; mothers’ unequal integration into the workplace; and fathers’ family roles.
