ABSTRACT

In what way should we go about making changes and what initiatives should be undertaken so that men take on more responsibility in childcare and the education of their children? This chapter presents some results from wider research carried out to find out the meaning of being fathers today (Giovannini and Ventimiglia 1994, 1997). The research has been supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region and it is a part of a wider transnational project, done in collaboration with the EU, on the themes of larger involvement of men in childcare.1
