ABSTRACT

The relationship between stress and the workplace has long been recognised (Yates, 1979). Stress occurs in a relationship between the worker and the work environment (Blau, 1981). The extent of stress in the workplace is difficult to define though some stress is seen to be helpful, as it increases concentration, effectiveness and performance. In the view of many practitioners, the management of stress in the workplace is usually associated with human resource management (Quick and Quick, 1979).
