ABSTRACT
In this context we can disregard mediaeval urban development. We need only note that the picture was by no means the same in the four Nordic countries: in Sweden the urban system developed later than in Denmark and Norway, and in Finland there was only one mediaeval town of any importance, namely Turku (Åbo). Swedish mediaeval towns were also more influenced by German urban culture than were the Norwegian or the Danish.
