ABSTRACT

It seems that economics has been left bereft of the positivist rationality according to which it can assess itself. Especially after the postmodernist assault to positivism, progress in economics became more a matter of faith than of science. If this is true, and progress in economics is a matter of faith, then the most appropriate metaphor for telling the story of economics is not science but religion.
