Physical education was one of the last subject areas in the phased implementation of the National Curriculum. It was not until August 1992 that the Order was introduced in respect of pupils in the first year of the Key Stage and 1 August 1993 in respect of all other pupils. There has, therefore, been little time for teachers to experience teaching the curriculum before the new changes were introduced.
