ABSTRACT

In this chapter my intention, by considering mathematical activities, is to arrive at some conclusions about the teaching and learning of mathematics and related issues. The chapter contains five sections in addition to this introduction. Each section covers a specific aspect of mathematics education and, although each section could be read independently, there are on occasions references between sections which may need to be considered. There are suggestions for enquiry tasks: these are classroom based, and involve the collection and analysis of data in order to make changes in, or highlight, aspects of your classroom practice.
