ABSTRACT

CSPs are at a critical stage in their evolution. Moving beyond Active Sports to a much wider agenda, they were presented as and accepted by HMG as an essential part of the sub-regional structure for sport in England. This new role brings with it opportunities and threats, including a danger of regression if CSPs try to move their focus too wide, too fast and without the investment and support needed to ensure effective evolution. CSPs were set up to help create a single development pathway for young people in different sports. This is their core business. Whilst they could do much more, it should never be at the expense of the young people they were designed to serve.
