In 2005 SkillsActive, the successor body to SPRITO, charged with undertaking supply and demand-side labour market analyses, asked Pitchford to undertake a survey of the profile, employment status, working practices and perceived training needs of paid workers and volunteers in the sector, since Collins’s (1995) work was more than a decade old.
