ABSTRACT

The central message that runs throughout this book is that the core activity of a school is learning. Of course, it is not just the students who learn; to suggest that is to imply that learning is imposed on one group by another, and that the other group has completed all the learning that it needs. In a world changing as fast as this, such a suggestion is profoundly silly. Everyone in a school is a learner. The objective that every school should strive for is to become a learning community, and the word ‘community’ is chosen deliberately rather than ‘organisation’.
