ABSTRACT

Some extra thought needs to go into planning lessons on measures and measurement. One challenge, for example, is ensuring that children have the technical skills such as being able to read weighing scales or angle measures sufficiently well to complete the activities we plan for them. Practical mathematics lessons pose the same challenges as practical science lessons. As with science, the majority of children really enjoy practical lessons about measures and measurement, but the technical skills and the mathematical ideas need to complement each other.
