ABSTRACT
Community and regional development in the northern region of Portugal is strongly connected to agriculture and rural tourism. The development of an organised rural community and of farm tourism throughout the region is regarded as a valuable contribution to local and municipal development. It is expected that the tourism industry will create a significant portion of future new job opportunities in the region so that the continued expansion of tourism is essential (Martins 1993).
