ABSTRACT

As Year 8s, they were the ‘naughty girls’—sent out of class to the counsellor's office, the Deputy Head's office and often then sent home. They were girls on the educational edge. School was not ‘their place’. But by the end of Year 9, they were the heart of Youth Environment Activists (YEA), with a budget, awards and networks that stretched from Clifftop College to the state government and further to the worldwide green movement.
