ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter the authors outlined why specifications and standards that enable the reuse of resources are needed. Previous chapters in this book offered visions of how the implementation of these specifications could transform learning and teaching. Different levels of learning objects were explored from fine-grained media resources to high level learning designs and whole courses. While the nature of reusability is different at each level, these require appropriate specifications and standards in order for reusability to take place. These range from agreed formats for the media objects, to the elements needed to describe the components, structure and behaviour of high level learning designs. This is the focus of this chapter.
