ABSTRACT
We first met Victoria in 1995 when we both came to the UK for our Ph.D. As a student and a friend both of us had the privilege to share her companionship. For a younger generation of economist coming from Brazil, struggling against all the difficulties of leaving our country, families and friends, we found in Victoria comfort, friendship, support, and above all guidance and constant stimulation. The passion with which she embraces her convictions and beliefs is a continuous source of strength and inspiration for us.
