If this is what strategy is about, then it is difficult to find clear medieval examples of the single-minded pursuit of decisive battle and the uncompromising imposition of one party’s will on another. Battles, as Hans Delbrück and a host of others who studied the subject quickly discovered, were few and rarely decisive in the Middle Ages.
