ABSTRACT

the mechanical functioning of the biological system. This definition encompasses a wide range of applications including sports and exercise. Biomechanics applied within a sports context is termed sports biomechanics and is concerned exclusively with the human body as the biological system. Further, sports biomechanics is often concerned with the mechanical factors affecting sports and exercise participation. These mechanical factors often relate to the design of equipment or other apparatus used in the performance of a sport, or the effect of environmental fluid forces, and may encompass such activities as modelling and computer simulation of motion. Sports biomechanics therefore has a focus wider than the biological system as implied by the definition at the start of this paragraph.
