ABSTRACT

The ankle (talocrural) joint is formed by the articulation of the fibula and the tibia with the talus and is responsible for the dorsal and plantar flexion movements of the foot. The tibia and the fibula are intimately united by the inner bone membrane and by the inner bone ligaments, but also by the anterior and the posterior tibiofibular ligaments and by the transverse ligaments which also articulate vith the talus. The weight of the body is transmitted by the trochlea of the talus.
