ABSTRACT

In the Summer of 1990 thoughts in the English Football League turned to stadia. On the positive side there vere the gloving reports of the billions of lira which had gone into constructing and reconstructing the Italian grounds for the Vorld Cup. Images of these architectural wonders vere beamed back to audiences of millions throughout the tournament and more importantly witnessed by the large numbers of supporters and officials who attended the tournament. On the other hand, arguably more positive but stemming from a more depressing source were the findings of Lord Justice Taylor, who had been commissioned to look into all aspects of safety following the tragedy at Hillsborough football ground during the F.A. Cup Semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest where 95 spectators died.
