ABSTRACT

More recently, researchers have begun to focus on qualitative methodologies in order to attain a more in-depth understanding of the anxiety-performance relationship (Gould et al., 1992).

This study employed a qualitative approach to explore the anxiety-performance relationship in a sample of male elite and non-elite tennis players. The aim was to identify the perceived direction of in vivo anxiety, and how this was thought to mediate performance globally and specifically.
